Like Andrew, Waltzing Matilda is always significant for me having lived away from Australia for such a long time.

I also have something in common with Banjo Paterson and many others: although he may have lived and worked in Sydney as an adult, he was born and spent a large amount of his childhood near Orange, New South Wales. Although it's become a lot more sophisticated in recent years, when I was a child (and certainly in Banjo's time) it was most definitely country and not urban fringe. I suspect he gained the city-slicker veneer but was still a country boy at heart.

To whom it may concern,
As a descendant of John Bignell, we have his wife as being Emily Louise Robinson, daughter of TJ Robinson of Toowoomba. We would be interested to know of other possible 'sources' of details relating to John Bignell and his wife.
Sincerely, Rod Stephenson [son of Beulah Joy Bignell, granddaughter of John Bignell]
